Recipes for Holiday Leftovers

Good morning everyone!

I hope you all had wonderful holidays!

I had a great time with friends and family and got to play host a few times as well. I know most of you (like me )probably have quite a few leftovers in your fridge, so I thought today I would share some ideas on how to make use of those classic leftovers.

Here are some yummy, simple recipes to try this weekend

Easy turkey sandwiches: mix mayo, chopped celery, turkey, salt and pepper in a bowl. Add to toasted bread and serve with a bowl of your favourite soup (this was our lunch today it was simple and it was delicious!)

Turkey Noodle Soup – this homemade option is great but if you are pressed for time just add leftover turkey to a packaged Lipton soup.

Turkey Chili & Rice Tacos

Turkey Caesar Salad

Ham & Swiss Pinwheels ( the perfect appetizer, breakfast or snack) Roll out one sheet of puff pastry – you can find this in the frozen section at the grocery store. Add leftover ham and swiss, roll and cut into pinwheels. Bake according to package directions. YUM!

Cuban Fried Rice

Wild Rice & Ham Chowder

Ham & Cheese Quiche

Mashed Potatoes

Potato Cakes

Shepherd’s Pie

Potato Salmon Cakes

wishing you all a wonderful day!

Today I am posting my holiday menu for tonight’s Christmas Eve dinner.

my homemade spinach dip- I don’t have a measurable recipe for the way I make it but this recipe looks awesome!

Smoked salmon rounds- purchase sliced pumpernickel load and use a cookie cutter to cut rounds. Use cake frosting pipe to make a round of chive cream cheese, place a piece of smoked salmon on top!

For more holiday appetizers check out this post!

Roast turkey (with crispy skin- yum!)

Slow cooking pot roast from M&M Meat Shops- comes ready to cook with marinade and it’s delicious

Garlic Mashed Potatoes (one of my favourite sides)

Cabbage Salad with Goat Cheese

Shredded Brussels Sprouts add bacon! (a family favourite)

Buns and homemade butter

It is almost the weekend and I have been cooking & baking a few great things this week that I would like to share.

First, I had a friend ask about recipes that use ground beef.. so here are some great ones for all of you as well:

Mini Tacos: a household favourite. This recipe makes them so easy to serve to guests as well.

Chili Mac: we had this on a cool day last week, so yummy!

Classic meatballs: good for spaghetti or subs

Cheeseburger Pizza: use a store-bought pizza dough or naan bread and add all your favourite toppings!

Dressed-up Sloppy Joes: a childhood favourite that is just as good as an adult, make them with garlic buns yumm

For a healthy alternative use ground turkey in any of these recipes!

after school snacks

With kids back in school it seems everything around us is about “after school” or “back to school” something. Keeping kids busy, happy and healthy is important and definitely takes a lot of work. Luckily, Pinterest can often give some creative ideas for tackling these tasks.

I was thinking I would post about kid friendly after school snacks today- snack ideas that both you and the kids would like. I have realized these are also great options for parties, weddings that have kids tables or simply get togethers when you are entertaining families- you have to plan a menu for the kids as well.

So here are some simple snack ideas to keep those kiddos happy!

Bears in a Bubble Bath Treat– these are adorable and look so tasty.

Panko Mozzarella Sticks (I make these all the time for adults too.. a delicious twist on cheese string!)

Baked Spinach Dip Mini Bread Bowls – No need to worry about mess or double dipping with this spinach dip idea.

Chocolate Banana Pops

Popcorn Balls – YUM!

Simple, creative and tasty to satisfy taste buds of all ages!

wishing you all a wonderful day!

getting ready for fall

Hi Everyone- I am back from Europe and I have so much to share with all of you!

First of all, the weather, the people, the food, everything was amazing. I was having a great time but I was also happy to come home to my space, friends and family- and I came home to some gorgeous fall weather.

Considering it is now September 7th, I feel it’s appropriate to begin getting ready for fall. You know what this means.. sweater weather- sunny days, chilly nights, boots, colorful leaves, hot drinks and delicious meals!

(More on my trip tomorrow)

For now, a few things to get you inspired by this wonderful season:

In your home

pumpkin apple autumn soap

Bath & Body Works Fall Collection! I cannot say enough about this store. They sell a great product at a great price.

It looks like Fall 2013 will be full of metallics and emerald green- but I am saving that for a later post.

For now, how about Z gallerie’s new fall items? Time to warm up your home with rich colors, warm blankets and fun fall accessories.

In your kitchen

Start a dinner party off with a tasty warm dip along with a soft bread for dipping. I like The Gallery Gourmet’s Hot Onion & Cheese Dip. Find the recipe here.

For dinner? Cheesy Chicken Parm Meatballs serve with pasta or Paula Deen’s Garlic Mashed Potatoes.

And for Dessert: Salted Maple Pecan Bars– I just love fall foods!

In your closet

reinbold spring scarlattispring

Everyone needs a great riding boot for the winter. I love these options from Spring.

The left is Reinbold and the right is Scarlatti.

dynamite jcrew old navy

A few great options for jackets: leather blazer jacket on the left is from Dynamite- I love this, I have it and wear it all the time. Next to that is a great jacket from J Crew. Finally, jean jackets can be worn into the fall, I like this one from Old Navy.

bridgetown francescas euphronica aldo

Accessorize your look with a fun scarf- these are warm, trendy and a fun way to add color to your outfit. These ones are from Francescas.

For Fun

Everyone loves a great DIY craft. Try this one for your next fall dinner: corn centrepiece
