stocking your bar

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready to get back into the work week. Let’s take one more minute for weekend thinking though! Last night I was having some wine with a friend and I realized it’s tough to buy drinks before guests arrive. Most people end up buying too many options and have a ton of leftovers (which is fine, it will be used at some point right?)

Well, to give you some ideas, here’s what’s popular at our house for casual parties:

steamwhistle corona

A lot of beer drinkers in our group so these 3 are what we usually buy (Mill St. Organic is my favorite!)

cottageblock jacobs creek middlesister

And a few white options, I came across this Cottage Block wine a few weekends ago and I loved it!

I don’t know much about red wine so I choose not to buy it..

It’s fun to have a signature drink as well- more on those coming soon!

We are in process of putting together a little bar area, what do you think??

This bar stand can be found at Bowring, chalkboard print from Homesense and floating shelves from Target.

(don’t mind my awful photos, I was in a hurry and using my little digital camera!)

wishing you all a wonderful Monday!

Tomorrow i’m talking about a traditional decor item which has become a big trend with all it’s variations-stay tuned!

Planning a party should be fun! Bringing people together who enjoy each other’s company and adding a personal touch to make the gathering unique- it’s a great project. One way to ensure your guests are happy is to have drinks for everyone. No matter what the age or type of drink you are serving, you don’t want to run out and leave your friends thirsty. In the past few years, drink displays have become a common area to incorporate themes, accessories and games.

Here are a few ideas for your drink stations:

With fun chalkboard signs, straws, frames and dispensers, you can serve your drinks in style!

Many of these items can be found at your local party store, target or Michaels (craft store).

Easy tip: add some fresh lime, lemon, cucumber or mint for flavour and appeal.

Oh, and here are a few refreshing drink recipes for a hot summer day:

Lime Float: a combination of lime sherbet and ginger ale- so simple and so good!

Skinny Beer-garitas: courtesy of :

1 cup fresh lime juice + 2 limes for zesting, 1 1/2 cups of water, 1/2 cup Splenda sugar blend

 To make the limeade:
Zest two limes.  In a large saucepan, combine water, Splenda and lime zest and heat until Splenda is completely dissolved.  Remove from heat and allow to cool at room temperature.  Stir in lime juice and freeze your limeade concentrate until ready to use.
To make the beer-garitas:
In a pitcher, combine frozen limeade, 2 beers and 1/2 cup of tequila.  Place pitcher in the freezer overnight until frozen through, then mix so that it is in slushy form and serve.  Enjoy!
Frozen French Lemonade: a recipe i’ve been making with my girlfriends for a while- we’re not sure where it came from! serves 4
1/2 cup Alizé Red Passion Passion liqueur, 1/2 cup citrus vodka, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup frozen lemonade concentrate, 4 cups of ice
1. Add ice, Alizé Red Passion liqueur, citrus vodka, water and  frozen lemonade concentrate to a blender.
2. Blend until slushy and pour into a Champagne flute.
