The super bowl is next weekend so i’ve dedicated this week’s blog posts to super bowl parties! It seems to be a very busy weekend for parties and entertaining so I thought it would be the perfect time to share easy recipes, decorating ideas and entertaining tips.
Today’s post: my top 3 entertaining tips for a party with boys
1. Make sure you have enough drinks for everyone! You want to have a lot of ice on hand and ensure you keep those drinks cold for your guests (if you are serving alcohol please make sure everyone has a safe way home!)
I love the use of frozen water filled balloons to keep drinks cold. Add these to a beer bucket to make them more man-friendly.
2. Arrange to have a variety of finger foods instead of one meal. Super Bowl parties are all about snacks and appetizers! I’ll be sharing some super simple, super delicious recipes later this week so you can serve great food without being stuck in the kitchen all day/night!
3. Have enough seats. This is really important if you’re having a group over. This party is all about a televised event so your guests will want to sit down and be comfortable. Play around with your furniture and don’t be afraid of rentals! Most companies have decent prices, quite a few options and they deliver.
Last week I posted about some of my favourite soup recipes, one of my favourite pairings for soup is a yummy sandwich (a great with salad too of course).
Last night we had gourmet sandwiches and soup for dinner- it was delicious and simple!
The Gourmet Grilled Cheese: this is a go-to in our home. use your favourite bread, fill with mozzarella, avocado and bacon then grill on a george foreman or cook as you would a grilled cheese.
Turkey, Apple & Brie: this is a delicious sandwich which tastes gourmet yet is so easy to make. It’s great for days when you have turkey leftovers. Slice your favourite bread, spread whichever dressing you like (we like honey dijon mustard), add turkey, brie and thinly sliced apples. YUM!
Christmas may be over but the party planning definitely is not- New Year’s Eve is just a few days away and I’ve got a ton of ideas. It’s one of my favourite events to plan because you get a room filled with excited guests celebrating a year past and a new year ahead, and lots, lots of glitter!
I hope you are all keeping warm on this first full day of winter. It’s a messy one here but that means all the more reason to sit by the tree with a warm cup of pepper mint hot chocolate!
I’ve seen a few bloggers post about holiday traditions in their homes and was discussing this with friends last night.
So, for day 10 of our holiday special, here are a few of my favourite holiday traditions
Decorating the tree: this is probably one of everyone’s favourites. I like to get the tree up late November and it gets me in the holiday mood- I also love having the little lights on when I am sitting in the living room.
The cookie exchange: I posted about this here. It’s always such a fun day with friends and family. You get all your baking done together and leave with a tray or box of an awesome assortment.
Christmas Eve celebrations: every year my family gets together for dinner, then we go to midnight mass followed by snacks, dessert and games (and usually get to open one gift). Any type of get together with family and friends is always so much fun!
Holiday Pyjama Party: there’s always that night you spend in pyjamas watching Christmas movies and snacking on special treats- I love that! Here are movie night snack ideas too!
What are your holiday traditions? I’d love to hear them!
