busy girl snacks

This week has been so busy! I can’t believe how fast it has gone by.

Even when your days are packed it is important to make sure you eat healthy, tasty meals. Personally, I love to snack!

Here are some of my favourite busy girl snacks:

Homemade trail mix: you can use anything you have in your pantry. I like to mix sweet & salty. Think peanuts, chocolate chips, cheddar crackers, cereals. Make it how you like it and make it ahead of time, all you have to do is grab the already filled ziplock.

Yummy Popcorn: who doesn’t love popcorn? Cooking the kernels on the stovetop is a healthier alternative. I like to add flavors: parmesan, herbs & garlic powder, simple salt & pepper, cinnamon etc. Make this ahead as well and bag it.

Classic Favourite: crackers & cheese

I love celery & peanut butter.. did you know you burn more calories chewing celery then you take in eating it? Awesome!

Mini egg salad sandwiches: I love those slider size whole wheat buns. I hard boil my eggs, mash them with mayonnaise (as much as you need to make it as creamy as you like) and thinly chopped celery for some crunch. Season with salt, pepper and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Simple, yummy and the perfect snack size sandwich.

Energy bites courtesy of smashed peas and carrots ( I make these all the time-they are great!)

after school snacks

With kids back in school it seems everything around us is about “after school” or “back to school” something. Keeping kids busy, happy and healthy is important and definitely takes a lot of work. Luckily, Pinterest can often give some creative ideas for tackling these tasks.

I was thinking I would post about kid friendly after school snacks today- snack ideas that both you and the kids would like. I have realized these are also great options for parties, weddings that have kids tables or simply get togethers when you are entertaining families- you have to plan a menu for the kids as well.

So here are some simple snack ideas to keep those kiddos happy!

Bears in a Bubble Bath Treat– these are adorable and look so tasty.

Panko Mozzarella Sticks (I make these all the time for adults too.. a delicious twist on cheese string!)

Baked Spinach Dip Mini Bread Bowls – No need to worry about mess or double dipping with this spinach dip idea.

Chocolate Banana Pops

Popcorn Balls – YUM!

Simple, creative and tasty to satisfy taste buds of all ages!

wishing you all a wonderful day!

party dips

Everyone loves to eat! Parties bring people together to eat. What’s not to love?

Like I have mentioned in another post, I have a love for snacking! And one of my favorite party snacks includes dips. Whether you are hosting your in-laws, group of friends or large crowd, dips are always great to serve.

(plus they can be prepped in advance and re-heated on the day you need them)

Here are a few recipes to try next you are having people over:

Feta Dip: courtesy of sweet paul blog- http://sweetpaul.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/06/re-1.html

Hot Onion and Cheese dip: courtesy of the galley gourmet-http://www.thegalleygourmet.net/2012/01/sunday-dinner_15.html

Classic Spinach Dip: I am so bad for this but I don’t really have a written recipe.. I use one block of cream cheese (8oz), 8oz of sour cream, half a pack of chopped spinach, chopped red pepper, 2 tablespoons parmesan, some paprika and some garlic powder. Mix this all together, add a layer of shredded asiago (or your favorite white cheese), bake at 450 for 10 mins and/or broil until top is golden brown.

Looking for a quick store bought option?

every flavour of Sabra Hummus is soo good!

wholly guacamole is great too

All of the above taste great with crackers, pretzels, veggies, naan bread or pitas!
